Vulcan Prime Competition Bumper Plates

Vulcan Prime Competition Bumper Plates are high-quality KG bumper plates with great accuracy and a nice aesthetic.

These plates are ideal for any lifting style… Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, general-purpose, CrossFit, etc…

This is the LB variant – Vulcan also sells a KG competition plate called the Absolute Competition Plate.

Features & Highlights

  • Minimal Bounce – The Prime Competition Bumper Plates from Vulcan have a durometer rating between 85-87, which is good for producing a low bounce. It’s not as high of a durometer rating as some of the competition, however, which have 90+ ratings. Still, this will help prevent you from having to chase the bar around the gym too much.
  • Zinc-Plated Steel Disc – These plates use a zinc-plated steel disc with six bolts to make a very secure plate. I don’t think zinc looks as nice as chrome, but one of the benefits of this textured finish is that you don’t see smudges or fingerprints as you do with chrome. The hole opening measures 50.4mm, which is consistent with competition-style plates and which will accommodate Olympic-sized bars nicely.
  • Raised Flanges– The outer edges of the plates are raised to help when picking the plates up from a flat position or otherwise carrying them. There is also a raised flange around the center disc to prevent metal-on-metal contact and to extend the life of the plates.
  • Weight Offerings – Vulcan Prime Competition Bumpers can be purchased from 25LB up to 55LB and they’re sold in pairs. They’re also available in sets ranging from 210LB up to 320LB. Sets ship free to most states in the US.
  • Plate Width – Competition plates have some of the thinnest profiles of any bumper plate, and these are certainly no exception. This allows for additional weight on the bar. Plate widths are as follows:
    • 25LB – 1.38″
    • 35LB – 1.69″
    • 45LB – 2.13″
    • 55LB – 2.6″
  • Durability – Competition plates are some of the most durable plates available. They’re built to withstand thousands of drops. These have been factory tested to 10,000 drops. These plates specifically also come with a strong warranty (more below).
  • Weight Tolerance – The Prime Competition Plates have a very accurate weight tolerance of +/- 10 grams, which is among the tightest tolerances in the industry.
  • Texture – The plates have a pebble grain texture to them that helps your grip and creates a nice-looking matte finish.
  • Aesthetics – Like virtually all competition-style plates, these from Vulcan look great. They have vibrant colors, raised white lettering, and a unique circular weight call-out that looks very nice.
  • Warranty – Vulcan Strength offers a very impressive 5-year warranty on these plates.

What They’re Saying at vulcanstrength.com

Vulcan Prime Competition Bumper Plates have received positive, but very limited feedback from users. With an average rating of 5/5, here are some of the things people have said at vulcanstrength.com.

Positive

  • “I purchased a set of the Vulcan Strength Prime Competition plates. I have been using them for close to a month now. They look and feel great, and are an excellent choice for a garage gym. The quality of these bumper plates are top notch, and I can’t wait for more 45lb plates to come in stock so I can order a few more pairs. Customer service was also great! I forgot to apply the military discount when buying, and they sent me a gift card for the same amount for use with future purchases.”
