The Versa Gripps Pro straps are some of the best lifting straps because of their durability, speed, and grip.
I’ve tested dozens of different straps at Garage Gym Lab, and the Versa Gripps Pros remain one of my go-to pairs.
They work especially well on bodybuilding movements and high-rep sets, and I love how fast I can get set up.
However, they’re not for everyone.
In this review, we’ll take a close look at the Versa Gripps Pro Straps. I’ll share the pros, cons, and everything in between. By the end, you should be able to tell if they’re right for you.

What Are Versa Gripps Pro Straps?
Versa Gripps are a type of lifting strap that you use to help you lift more weight and more reps. Most lifters are physically capable of pulling heavier weights or more reps, but grip fatigue prevents them from succeeding.
These and other lifting straps transfer the weight from the grip into the strap, resulting in no grip fatigue. Therefore, users are typically able to set PRs instantly.
Versa Gripps have a unique design that allows lifters to set up quickly and easily. One of the biggest drawbacks of traditional lasso-style straps is that they’re more time-consuming and harder to set up.
Instead of wrapping the shaft several times, these straps have a palm pad that wraps around once and secures with a simple twist of the hand.
In addition to speed, the other advantage is there’s much less bulk to deal with, which creates a more natural feel.

These are some of the most well-made lifting straps you’ll find. They use a combination of materials, including nylon, neoprene, metal, and a non-slip pad.
Nylon is a popular material for lifting straps because of its durability and aesthetics. The Versa Gripps use nylon on the wrist strap portion. It’s tightly woven and thick, leaving no concern over durability. It’s also available in numerous colors, including black, blue, red, green, yellow, purple, pink, orange, mint, and camo.
With this type of strap, the palm pad is the most prone to damage. While this piece is made of proprietary material, it feels like a hybrid rubber/leather material. The texture is smooth and supple, allowing it to grip the shaft well and stay tight. It’s also comfortable in the hand.
When looking at these straps, you can tell that Versa Gripps cares about durability based on the stitching. These pads include double-stitched seams, Box-X stitching, and other reinforcements to keep them performing well.
Now, it’s a bit unreasonable to expect these to last forever. The life expectancy can vary depending on how often you use them, how much you’re lifting, and how aggressive the knurling is. Think of them like a pair of shoes – they’ll eventually wear down, requiring a new pair. To be fair, this is true for all lifting straps.
Versa Gripps offers a 1-year warranty on their lifting straps that covers manufacturing defects. It does not include normal wear and tear or abuse.
Overall, I’m impressed with the build quality and durability of the Versa Gripps. This is my second pair. The first pair lasted around two years of me using them 1-2 times per week. If you’re using them multiple times per week, I would plan to replace them sooner.
The biggest consideration when buying a pair of lifting straps is the amount of support they offer. Overall, the Versa Gripps Pro straps are very supportive, but I don’t recommend them as much as other styles for ultra-heavy lifting.
These straps are ideal for bodybuilding movements with dumbbells and cable attachments. I especially love them for rows, shrugs, and lat pulldowns.
They’re also great for high-rep barbell movements, including rows, deadlift variations, and more.
However, because they have a shorter pad, I’ve found them less effective for heavy deadlifts. If you’re a powerlifter or Strongman athlete, lasso or figure-8 straps will provide more support.
Some lifting straps can be uncomfortable, especially those with thick, nylon straps. While Versa Gripps Pros have nylon wrist supports, they include two neoprene patches for a softer texture.
Additionally, the palm pad provides a single layer of supple material compared to multiple layers of nylon, cotton, or leather. I’ve come to prefer this for higher rep sets because it feels much more natural in the hand.
Overall, these are easily among the most comfortable wrist straps I’ve used.
Using the Versa Gripps Pro Straps
Using the Versa Gripps is one of its biggest advantages over traditional straps. For instance, with lasso straps, you have to wrap each hand independently 2-4 times around the shaft, depending on length. With one hand locked in, positioning the other can be tricky for some.
Versa Gripps eliminates that entirely, allowing you to position both hands simultaneously. The shorter palm pad also dramatically reduces setup time. With traditional straps, it can take me 10 seconds or more to set up for a lift. With Versa Gripps, I’m ready to lift in 3 seconds or less.
To use them, place the shaft between your palm and the pad. Using your fingers, wrap the pad around the bottom of the shaft and into the palm. Then, twist your hands so the material wraps tightly around the shaft.
The speed and ease you can set these up can make a huge difference. I haven’t found anything better for cable-based movements, where traditional straps can be awkward and time-consuming.
The biggest downside to using the Versa Gripps is that they aren’t as effective when sweat enters the equation. While the pad is grippy on its own, sweat can make them slicker, which may impact performance. If you’re a heavy sweater, this is something to consider. Otherwise, wiping your palms between sets should be enough to mitigate slippage.
The Versa Gripps Pro Straps come in four sizes based on wrist circumference:

To find your size, measure directly around your wrist bone with a flexible tape measure. If you’re between sizes, I recommend sizing down for a more secure fit. Regardless of the size, all Versa Gripps palm pads are the same length.
Versa Gripps are some of the most premium-priced straps on the market. The Pro version costs over $70, while the Xtreme version fetches over $100. They also sell the ‘Classic’ version, which retails for less than $50 as of this review.
For comparison, you can buy quality traditional straps for less than $20. However, you’re paying for convenience and American-made with Versa Gripps.
Aside from price, the biggest difference between Versa Gripps models is durability. While the Pros are best for most people, the Xtremes are ideal for heavy lifters/frequent users, and the Classics are best for lighter weights and usage.
The Versa Gripps Pros are very well reviewed. With average ratings of 4.8 at Amazon and 4.9 at Versa Gripps based on thousands of reviews, people love their comfort and ease of use. Most critical feedback is centered on price, although a few reviewers pointed to fit issues.
Pros and Cons
The Versa Gripps Pros are some of the more effective lifting straps on the market. They’re made in the USA with quality materials and are extremely easy to use.
I highly recommend these straps for bodybuilders, CrossFitters, and anyone who performs high-rep movements.
I don’t think they’re as good for heavy lifting, including powerlifting and Strongman. For those, I recommend lasso-style or figure-8 straps.
While the Versa Gripps Pros are expensive, they’re among the most durable straps I’ve tested. The convenience and speed are huge benefits, but it’s up to you if the higher cost is worth it.
