Ironmaster Super Bench

The Ironmaster Super Bench is a uniquely-designed and very popular telescoping flat/incline/decline with a lot of versatility at a solid price point. It receives positive feedback from users.

Read more below.

Features & Highlights

  • Telescoping Design – The Ironmaster Super Bench uses a large half-moon telescoping spine that provides a nice-looking and very secure adjustment mechanism. The bench utilizes a combination of 11 and 12-gauge steel and weighs 60lbs before attachments. It ships with some parts pre-assembled but does require some simple assembly before use.
  • # of Adjustments – The bench offers 11 positions ranging from 0-85 degrees (0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 85). One unique design feature of the Super Bench is that the seat is a separate attachment, so it accommodates whatever angle you set the back pad. In the upright position, the seat can either sit 12″, 14″, or 16″ from the ground, which can accommodate users of different heights/preferences.
  • Zero Pad Gap – Because the seat is an attachment that matches the back angle, there is zero gap in any position. When in the flat position, the seat is left off since the back pad is long enough (44″).
  • Pad Width – The pad on the Super Bench is 10″ wide, which some people will like and others will not. This is ultimately a personal preference, as some people like the additional support of a wider bench pad. 12″ is the most common width, which is what I prefer as well. That said, some users prefer a narrower bench pad.
  • Multiple Attachments – Another unique quality of the Ironmaster Super Bench is that it offers several attachments, making it a very versatile bench. The most popular attachment is the crunch sit-up, which holds your legs for decline movements. Other attachments include the leg attachment (leg extension/curl), dip bar, chin-up bar, preacher curl, etc…
  • Weight Limit – Ironmaster states a 1,000lb weight capacity in the flat position and 600lbs in the incline position, both of which are in-line with other benches in this class.
  • Not IPF Height – The biggest drawback to the Super Bench is its height. Sitting at 20″ tall in the flat position, it's well outside of IPF specs and it can be challenging for some people to generate leg drive. Ironmaster smartly corrected this in the Pro version, which has a height of 17.2″ (within IPF specs). If you do a lot of flat bench pressing, I would recommend either having a separate dedicated IPF-height flat bench or spending the extra money for the Pro version.
  • Wheels are not Standard – The Super Bench does not come with wheels or a handle for easy transportation. That said, you can pay for a separate wheel attachment, which replaces the rear foot support.
  • Front Foot – The front foot on this bench is 18.75″ wide, which can pose problems for some people in setting foot position. This differs from a tripod/single post design, which gives the feet more freedom to find an optimal position.
  • Upright Storage – The Super Bench does allow for vertical storage, which is a nice benefit to save space when not in use.

What They're Saying at Amazon.com

The Ironmaster Super Bench receives good feedback from users. With an average rating of 4.6/5, here are some of the things people have said at amazon.com:

Positive

  • “Bought this to replace a 20 year old Weider adjustable workout bench with way thinner padding. When you see this thing in person you immediately notice how thick the padding is and how much quality is in the craftsmanship. It comes almost 3/4 put together in the box already and the remainder you can bolt together in about 10-15 minutes at most. It's light enough to pick up and move around your gym yourself without wearing yourself out even though there's no wheels. You adjust the incline/decline by using your foot and then lifting the pad up or down and it feels really sturdy no matter what position you lock it into. There's also the option of adding several add-on accessories for this bench (I bought the dip bar, preacher curl attachment, leg extension attachment, sit up attachment, and hyper core attachment as well) and they are a breeze to attach/detach and feel sturdy/high quality as well. My old Weider bench pales in comparison to the functionality of this thing. This should be one of your first purchases if starting your own home gym. Just my .02 cents.”
  • “As with all products I've seen by Ironmaster, this is of amazing quality. The craftsmanship is nothing short of commercial grade you've used in gyms if not better. Every stitch says quality. The cushion is firm but comfortable and the bench feels rock solid with no wobbles when in use, but still light enough to easily carry. I applaud the engineer who came up with this design. Of my 20 plus years either working in the fitness industry or around it, I can't say I've ever seen a bench more well thought out.”
  • “This bench is very well put together. I fee like it will last forever. I’ve already purchased accessories and they are great. As far as bench, incline and decline, I like the width of the bench; it give me the support I need and it adjusts easily. from flat to 90 degrees and anywhere in between.”
  • “This is the kind of bench that will last a lifetime. I have it in my small home gym. It's extremely sturdy and I love how adjustable it is. The way it's setup is very creative and being able to set this thing to any angle is fantastic. I have the dip attachment which is also great. This bench is great for a home gym not just because it's sturdy, but because it's versatile. I would never expect to be doing dips with a bench but here I am. Fantastic bench and a great setup for doing dips if you get the dip attachment.”
  • “This is a really cool workout bench. I love the technology of lifting and lowering the bench. The one thing I've never liked with retractable benches is that there's a gap between the seat and the back rest for doing inclines. So when you drop the bench into a flat position, the gap is annoying and sometimes even hurtful to your lower back. With the Ironmaster, you get a straight bench with no gaps and you get a solid seat you attach when doing inclines. It's a bit pricey but it's so rock solid, I figure it will last for generations!”

Critical

  • “As many have said, the bench is a little high and makes it hard to plant your feet when doing bench.”
  • “The bench feels very sturdy and I like the large amount of angle adjustments, but I have some issues with the design. First, I'm 6'0″ and when lying flat on the bench my feet barely skim the ground. It will be impossible to stabilize myself when benching unless I put something on the ground to plant my feet on. Another problem is the seat, it feels too small and digs into my legs. Also the highest seat setting is too short and uncomfortable, causing my knees to travel past my hips.”
